Head south along the Turnagain Arm. Stop at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. Eat dinner at the Double Musky in Girdwood. My favorite food place is the F Street Station if you can get a seat. With Anchorage's crime rate of 46 per 1,000 people, that means you have basically a 4.6% chance of being victim to a crime. In New York you have a 3.5% chance of being victim to a crime. That's it. there's no "well one city is smaller than the other" argument.

The homeless situation is palpable now, with many large camps around Anchorage and panhandlers being seen further and further south in the city than 20 years ago. Speaking of which, both Providence and UAA have grown quite a bit in the last 20 years. We’ve added about 20k people in 20 years.

Well if you don’t mind swarms of mosquitos enveloping you for your summer activities, or doing your winter activities when it’s constantly -10 to -40 out, then sure, Fairbanks is better. Anchorage has like 10 days total in the winter when it gets as cold as -12 or so. It’s normally more like 10 to 20 above.

All residents and visitors welcome!Anchorage reminds me of a small religious town in the bible belt. Most of the town closes down by 9pm, there really isn't anything to do for fun but eat/drink, traveling acts and bands don't bother coming here, COVID and misinformation is rampant, the public transportation is abysmal, shopping variety is limited and meth/heroin use is rampant.

Pro: Amazing views. Anchorage feels very open for the amount of people that live here (compared with similar size cities in the lower 48), which means not a lot of traffic, and places rarely feel crowded. Anchorage has a small town feel in a mid-size city (just over 300k). Cons: not much to do if you are not an avid outdoorsman. That said, Alaska is still pretty much my favorite place on Earth, especially the Kenai peninsula south of Anchorage. I absolutely adored the town of Seward, but that's 2.5+ hour drive from ANC. If you have the time, I'd highly recommend a couple days in Seward. A bit closer to ANC, the town of Girdwood is just a 50 minute drive.
